Obituary for David "Bubbagum" Harrison

David Harrison affectionately known as “Bubba Gum,” was born June 8, 1950, in Birmingham, Alabama to the late Richmond and Mary Ella Harrison.

David was baptized at Union Bethel Independent Methodist Church. It is now Union Bethel Christian Church, under the leadership of Pastor Kenneth Robinson. Since childhood, he is still a member. He sung in his younger years in the choir. Also, his wife said she would hear him singing around the house.

He attended Center Street Elementary School and Ullman High School. He started working with American Freight, before it merged with FedEx. For over 40 years, he was a dedicated employee and performed outstanding service.
David was united in Holy Matrimony to V’Sheryl Ann Bates on April 25, 2008.

In Hebrew, David means “beloved” and that’s what you saw. Everyone loved Bubba. He was a magnet. A true go-getter even with his health problems. Wherever he was, he was the life of the group; always something funny to put a smile on your face which made your day even better.

He cooked for everyone and taught family members different dishes to prepare. His favorite dishes were sweet potato pie (dish from mother), corn pudding, dressing and he was famously known for his collard green casserole.

On Sunday, June 5, 2022, David received his heavenly call from our Creator and Father after health complications. He was preceded in death by the following siblings: Susie M. (Joseph) Peasant, Annette H. (Charles) White and Herbert (Bessie) Harrison.
He leaves to cherish his memories a loving and devoted wife, V’Sheryl Ann Harrison; siblings, Raymond (Essie) Harrison, JoAnn H. (Willie) Peterson, Edward Harrison, Phyllis H. (Marvin) Conner and Jacqueline H. (Dwight) Perry; a special cousin, Mrs. Florence W. Griffin of Detroit, MI; two sisters-in-law, Minister Evelyn White and Katherine Hall, both of Birmingham, AL; one brother-in-law, William Slater of Montgomery, AL; stepson, Jerome (Sylvia) Thomas of Huntsville, AL; a special caring and devoted daughter/granddaughter, Kassandre Harris of Birmingham, AL; devoted friends, Clark (Butch) Ward and Ronald (Shiloh) McCants and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
